The ROSSIO infrastructure helps to develop a new Digital Object Identifier service – DOI

NOVA FCSH provides a service of digital identifiers (Digital Object Identifier – DOI) to the entire academic and scientific community.

DOI is an identifier for digital objects, an alphanumeric code assigned to a digital object so that it can be identified in a unique and persistent way on the internet. DOI persistent identifiers allow the unambiguous identification of a publication and its clear referencing for dissemination purposes (bibliographic references, personal pages, resumes, research portals, etc …).

Currently, it is required by the research funding agencies, namely the FCT – Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., the use of DOI for purposes of scientific reporting and validation and reporting of publication expenses.

The team responsible for implementing this service at NOVA University is composed of members from the Scientific Information Management Unit, the Rectory, NOVA FCSH, NOVA FCT and ROSSIO Infrastructure. The work methodology found is particularly innovative in the national sphere and contributes to the framing of this project in the national strategy for the promotion of Open Science.

The ROSSIO infrastructure role was to help developing the DOI attribution request form and platform, which allows Research Unities and those responsible for editorial projects to submit their DOI attribution requests in a simpler and more decentralized way.
